On September 11, Wyckoff Heating & Cooling joined Hubbell Realty Company, area trade partners and volunteers to kick off the largest “Extreme Build Project” Hubbell has undertaken to date – the demolish and rebuild of the Ronald McDonald House.
“We hold a Hubbell Extreme Build event every four years and for us, it’s about helping the community and making an impact on the people within those communities. We’ve done three builds like this – in 2006, 2009, 2013 – and this year’s will be by far the largest project we’ve ever taken on as a company,” said Hubbell Realty Company President & CEO Rick Tollakson.
Located just west of Methodist Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House is located in the historic Sherman Hill neighborhood on the corner of 15th and Pleasant Street.
The “Hubbell Extreme Build” is a project taken on by Hubbell and area trade partners, along with hundreds of volunteers, to re-build a vital component of downtown Des Moines. Demolition took place during the month of August, and construction of the exterior walls began on September 11.
From there a team of trade partners, including 50 Wyckoff team members, will spend the next 11 days building the new, 18-room house. Each room will be capable of hosting families of four. This will be an upgrade from the former Ronald McDonald House, which consisted of 12 rooms, with a capacity of two occupants per room. The build will occur around-the-clock until completion on September 22.
As a trade partner of Hubbell Realty, Wyckoff Heating & Cooling will complete all of the HVAC installation for the building, providing supplies at cost to Hubbell and performing skilled labor at no charge.
“We are honored and excited to be part of such an incredible project for a deserving cause,” said Andy Wyckoff, Wyckoff Heating & Cooling. “As a family-owned company, we feel strongly about helping other families, our friends and neighbors, here in central Iowa. We couldn’t be more proud to provide HVAC services to ensure their most basic needs of comfort are met.”
