HVAC Journeyman

Job Description
The HVAC Installation Technician will perform the duties peculiar to and normally required in the design, installation, replacement and remodel of HVAC systems, and follow recognized procedures and techniques for such work. This position may also be called upon to perform other duties normally required in the HVAC service trade, or other activities beyond the scope of the normal HVAC field based on need and the ability of the technician to perform such multi-trade tasks.

Typical Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Main Duties:
    • Size all new or replacement HVAC systems, including ducting.
    • Estimate costs for installation, remodel/replacement of systems.
    • Install HVAC systems and ducting. This includes new installation and remodel/replacement of existing systems.
    • Work alongside the construction crew on all installations/remodels, and work within the construction schedules agreed upon.
  • As needed, required to perform the following:
    • Drive to off locations to repair/install HVAC systems.
    • Inspect and operate air conditioning units and machinery to determine that all are functioning properly.
    • Maintain and repair HVAC systems.
    • Read thermometers and gauges; records readings.
    • Make adjustments to thermostatic controls and blowers.
    • Lubricate and/or service compressors, motors, and other moving parts of HVAC equipment as needed.
    • Assist the HVAC preventive maintenance program as needed.
    • Keep supervisor informed of significant events and circumstances related to technician’s responsibilities. Also ensure that all communication with members of management; coworkers, students, and staff are accurate and to the point as it relates to the business at hand.
    • Take responsibility for the accurate and timely completion of paperwork.
    • Perform each day’s tasks according to the work appointed/dispatched by your Manager and/or their Manager.
    • Provide maximum customer service, accurate communication, and extreme courtesy to all builders, homeowners and members of the staff.

Qualifications
Candidate must be self-motivating; ability to work with little direction; ability to share knowledge; ability to meet due dates on paperwork and work orders; ability to perform arithmetic computation; able to remain steadfastly positive in the face of adversity.

Education
High School graduate or its equivalent; courses in HVAC troubleshooting and installation

Skills
Must have a general understanding of the refrigerant cycle, and have a basic electrical knowledge. Must have the ability to design and install HVAC system. Must be able to work from plans customary to the trade’s area, including the ability to understand electrical schematics as they pertain to HVAC systems. Technician must have superior skills in the operation of most basic power and hand tools common to the HVAC trade. Technician must have the ability to communicate effectively with consumers of services, and to cooperate with Manger of Environmental Systems, and fellow workers.

HVAC Service Technician

Job Description
This position will perform complete maintenance on all ages of equipment. The service tech must have the ability to accurately identify HVAC system issues, recognize potential problems before they arise, and share recommended solutions in a non-technical manner to the customer. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to perform all HVAC repairs and replacements to code
  • Must be able to troubleshoot, service, repair, and install mechanical control systems
  • Complete paperwork in an accurate, timely and legible manner
  • Must be capable of performing a thorough and accurate HVAC inspection and communicating findings to the customer
  • Ability to perform calculations necessary for HVAC work as well as calculations for invoicing purposes
  • Compliance with all safety standards and processes

Experience

  • 3+ years of HVAC experience
  • HVAC Journeyman’s license preferred, not required

Education
High School / GED or Accredited Trade School

The Lead License HVAC Installer is responsible for the installation of HVAC systems in residential and commercial properties. This employee must be able to utilize an array of tools to keep systems operating at maximum efficiency. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing all HVAC installations according to safety standards and codes
  • Performing thorough and accurate HVAC inspections
  • Careful observation and attention to detail is necessary, as HVAC systems can be precise mechanisms
  • Understanding the pieces and tools needed to maintain and install HVAC systems
  • Lifting heavy parts and equipment
  • Effective time management to schedule jobs and keep timely appointments

Experience
Current HVAC license required

Education
High School / GED or Accredited Trade School

Requirements
